One pleasant morning, Kirusha decided to visit his friend Kiara.

He walked happily down the small lane, kicking tiny stones on the road as he went.

When he reached Kiara’s house, he saw a beautiful yellow sunflower blooming in a flower pot kept on Kiara’s window.

A few minutes earlier, Kiara had watered the plant and happily admired the flower that had finally bloomed after so many days of caring for it.

Kirusha stepped closer to the window. Tiny drops of water were still shining on the leaves, and the flower looked bright and beautiful.

“Wow,” Kirusha whispered.

He looked closely at the flower.

It was big, bright, and very pretty.

Kirusha remembered that Kiara loved flowers. She was always watering them and talking to them.

Kirusha thought for a moment.

Then his eyes lit up.

“Wait… I have an idea,” he said softly.

Kiara will be very happy if I give her this flower as a present.

Carefully, he reached out and plucked the flower from the plant.

Pop!

Now the flower was in his hand.

Kirusha smiled proudly.

“This will be the best surprise,” he said.

He quickly ran to the door and rang the bell.

“Ding-Dong!”

Then he hid the flower behind his back.

A moment later, Kiara opened the door.

“Kirusha! You’re here!” she said happily.

Kirusha brought his hand forward and held out the flower.

“This is for you!”

Kiara’s face lit up.

“For me?” she asked.

“Yes! I brought you a present.”

Kiara took the flower and smiled.

“Thank you, Kirusha! It’s so beautiful!”

She admired the flower happily for a moment.

Then her eyes slowly moved toward the flower pot on the window.

The plant had no flower on it anymore.

Kiara blinked.

Then her eyes moved to the flower in her hand.

Then to Kirusha.

“Kirusha…” she said slowly.

“Where did you get this flower?”

Kirusha didn’t say anything. He simply pointed proudly at the plant.

Kiara stared at him for a second.

Her happy smile slowly turned into a mix of surprise, sadness, and a little anger.

“That was my flower!” she said.

“Oh,” Kirusha said softly.

He scratched his head.

“I thought if I gave it to you, you would be happy.”

Kiara looked at the empty plant again and then at the flower in her hand.

She tried to control her emotions, and a small tear appeared in her eyes.

For many days she had watered the plant, waited patiently, and taken care of it so that the flower would bloom.

Kirusha noticed the tear and suddenly felt worried.

“I’m sorry, Kiara,” he said quietly. “I didn’t know it would make you sad. I just wanted to surprise you.”

Kiara looked at him for a moment.

Then she took a deep breath.

“It’s okay, Kirusha,” she said gently. “I know you wanted to make me happy.”

She placed the sunflower carefully in a small glass of water.

“At least we can still enjoy it for a few days,” she said.

Then she smiled a little.

“But next time, if you want to give someone a flower…”

“…maybe don’t take it from their own plant.”

Kirusha nodded seriously.

“That makes sense,” he said.

The two friends stood by the window, looking at the plant together.

And in his mind, Kirusha made a quiet promise to himself—

Next time, he would definitely find a surprise that made her smile.
